ARC Lifeguard Re-Certification Class April 2019

The purpose of this class is to provide re-certification to previously certified American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguards or current ARC Certified lifeguards to renew certification and update their knowledge of new ARC policies and procedures. The class will provide participants with updated knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies. Participants will be trained and certified to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until emergency services (EMS) personnel take over.

Requirements: Previous ARC Lifeguard Certificate in good standing. Review current lifeguarding manual and videos prior to first class. Participants must be 16 years of age, be able to swim 300 yards continuously, demonstrate breath control and rhythm breathing, tread water for two minutes using the legs only, and complete a timed event retrieving a brick from the deep end of the pool.

Class includes: A total of 10 hours of class instruction plus 8 hours of online instruction. Class is a combination of hands on instruction and online learning. Upon successful completion, participants will receive the American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for two years. Attendance at all facility sessions and completion of all online lessons are two of a number of requirements necessary to successfully pass for certification.

Arnis/Escrima/Kali 2019 January -June

Students learn single and double stick techniques including disarming, twirling, sparring drills and bare-handed applications. Located at the Recreation Center's Gymnasium at 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd.

Aikido 2019 January - June

Aikido is a non-violent and noncompetitive Japanese martial art that
can be done by people of all ages and many levels of physical abilities.
Through Aikido training, you will learn to apply throws, wrist locks and redirections while learning how to move with grace and power. Staff/spear, sword and knife techniques round out a comprehensive martial curriculum. The training is designed for all levels of practitioners.
Sweats and t-shirts are recommended for those that wish to try training
and uniforms are available for committed students.

Karate/Tae Kwon Do 2019 January - June

Tae Kwon Do is designed to teach self-defense, coordination and self-confidence. This is a continuing course for beginners through advanced students. Loose clothing is required. Sign up at the Recreation Center located at 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd.

Classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Recreation Center's Gymnasium located at 1180 Rufus Allen Blvd. Drop-in rates are $6.00 for children and $10.00 for adults.

Welcome to the City of South Lake Tahoe's registration site for Aquatics/Swimming, STAR Camp, and Recreation Center Facility Usage!

                 

 

Understand Your Child's Swimming Ability Level by clicking on and viewing these American Red Cross Guidelines: Swim Levels By Age and Ability.

Swim Lesson Overview:

  • Parent and Child Aquatics (PC)

    Ages 6 months - 3 years

    Familiarizes young children (ages 6 months - 3 years) to the water and prepares them for future Learn-to-Swim Programs. The course is a bonding experience that will leave everyone with wonderful life long memories.

  • Preschool Aquatics (PRE)

    Ages 4 - 5

    Consists of 3 levels, is an integral part of the over all Instructional Aquatic and Water Safety Program. The most elementary of aquatic skills are taught and built on as they progress through the courses with a strong focus on developing good attitudes and safe practices around the water.

  • Learn-to-Swim

    Ages 6 - 17

    Teaches aquatic and personal water safety skills in progression. It consists of 6 levels. Through out the levels participants build on their basic skills to learn various propulsive movements that are refined into the different recognized strokes and build endurance.

     

 

STAR Camp, Summer 2019:

  • SUMMER KICK-OFF: Monday, June 24th

  • AGES: 6-12 years (entering grades 1st-6th)

  • DAYS & HOURS: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:30pm 

    (sign-in: 8:30am-9:30am; sign-out: 4:30pm-5:30pm)

  • PRICING: $35/day or $150/week; there is an additional cost for Fun Trips - prices are dependent upon location and subject to change

  • WHAT TO BRING: lunch & additional snack, swimsuit & towel, sun protective clothing, hat, tennis shoes, water bottle, & sunscreen.  Please leave electronic devices at home. 

  • REMINDER: Please ensure that your child eats a nourishing breakfast before arriving at camp and packs appropriate clothing for the day's activities.
